Summer is in full swing and who is looking for an excuse to go out and play trains? Here is the perfect excuse to come out with our Father’s Day Club Fun Day on Saturday, June 18th. This is a great opportunity to invite friends and family out to the railroad. Don’t forget to bring plenty of water, sun screen, and a good sense of humor.

Big Week for the Live Steam Hobby with the Train Mountain Triennial work week in full swing
Every three years hundreds of people in the live steam hobby make a journey out to Chiloquin, Oregon for the Train Mountain Triennial. This is a two week event which encompasses working the railroad and playing at the same time. The fellowship and friends created across the hobby is an amazing experience for sure. One of the other things that makes this railroad so unique is the nearly 40 miles of track with one route taking nearly 4 hours round trip. This week marks the first week of the Triennial with a focus on working the railroad during the day and playing in the evening while the second week is pretty much all play. Here are some pictures taken back in 2015 when many of our members went out to the Triennial.

Reminder: Special member rolling stock maintenance day planned for Saturday, July 9th at 8:30 a.m.
One of our very own needs help performing maintenance on his trains. As many of you know Dan loves to haul the public with his train and many passenger cars and other rolling stock and because of this some required maintenance is needed before he can continue to share what he enjoys with everyone in a safe manner. We are organizing a couple of workdays between now and the fall to help get his train back on track and fully operational. This will also provide a great opportunity for those that haven’t had a chance to work on equipment an opportunity to learn and get dirty in the process.

These riding car seats with cup holders could be good at any railroad with any train. One note in the instructions that stand out that should be considered is to lower from a 12” height to a 5” height in order to lower the center a gravity.

2nd Annual North Georgia Live Steamers Fall Meet - October 20th - 23rd
Mark your calendars for the 2nd Annual Fall Meet with North Georgia Live Steamers. Spread the word and let all of your railroad friends know about our event. Please note this is NOT part of our public run day events.

All locomotive types are welcome and for those with steam engines we only require a hydrostatic test that is less than 12 months old to operate on the railroad. Hydro tests will be available during the meet.

Railroad Gauge(s): 7 1/2 & Gauge 1
Accommodations:
We have limited room for RV’s and trailers onsite however overflow space will be available at the RV parking area located at the Georgia International Horse Park facility which is about a mile down the road. For those wishing to stay in a hotel the Hawthorn Suites is directly across the street from the site. Other hotels are available in the area about 3 to 5 miles away.
Visiting Trains:
All locomotive types are welcome, but steam engines are required to have a hydro-static test. The test can be completed at the railroad with help from a NGLS member.

Impromptu Workday recap for Saturday, May 28th
A small crew went to the site this past weekend to take out some trees in preparation of the next member container. The crew consisted of Wes, Brandon, Norm, Ben, and “Bob”. Some more work is still needed to finish preparing the site, but the guys are getting close. The crew will be looking for some help building track panels in the coming weeks along with figuring out exactly how the track will be laid out. More details to come.

May 21st Run Day Recap - What an incredible day sharing our hobby with others
What an incredible day as our second public run day of the 2022 season is in the books. We had a great turnout by membership and the public to enjoy trains on such a warm day. It was also great to bring back the potluck and sharing all the great food with each other. It did apparently take bringing back the potluck for our grill master to come back after moving what seems like a decade ago. Bill thanks for firing up the grill and getting the hot dogs ready for everyone. A big thank you to everyone who volunteered throughout the day as we can’t do it without you.
Our next club fun day and meeting is also coming up on Saturday, June 4th. Don’t forget to mark your calendar and come out and enjoy the railroad with friends and family. We will stop for a brief meeting at 1 p.m. and then back to the fun. We will have some special workdays coming up doing something a little different. More details to follow on that.

Back by popular demand we will be cooking out for lunch at our May 21st public run day. Just like before COVID everyone will bring a dish or side that can be shared with everyone. We will also be digging out the grill to cook hotdogs.

Don’t forget to bring your own drinks especially since it will be warm on Saturday, May 21st.
