Progress made on container track project during our Saturday workday
The day started out a little cold but quickly warmed up as the Saturday work crew began arriving. The crew consisted of Norm, Gene, Robby, Rick, Thomas, David E., and Dave L. Most of the crew spent the first few hours collecting already built track panels from around the railroad that will be used for the container project along with doing some track repairs in the east loop. Dave L. hung another bracket for the second signal head which puts us another step closer to our first permanent set of signal heads. The track crew pulled out a switch from the steaming siding and reinstalled it for the container track.

Wet weekend still produced progress on container project
Weekend rain didn’t slow progress on container #4 project. John T. spent time preparing the roadbed for track panels to be placed in the coming weeks not only for the container but also a storage track to the right of the container. Eventually a storage track will exist on both sides of container #4 which will provide more places for our visiting trains to park and recharge electric locomotives after a day of playing.

The crew for container 4 is looking for help building track panels this coming Saturday, February 18th. The plan is to build 15 to 20 straight panels and prepare the pieces to build about 5 switches. For those considering coming this Saturday work will begin around 8:30 a.m. and will need one or two chop saws to cut nearly 400 ties for the panels being constructed. Other work around the railroad will also take place to prepare the railroad for our next club fun day in March.

Trains! Trains! Trains! 2023 Recap
What an incredible weekend we had at The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History in Kennesaw. Our location in the museum was unbelievable as more than 3,000 visitors coming through the museum passed by our display area. This year we displayed the club steamer, Coca-Cola modern tank car, 40ft Chick-fil-A box car, and a C&O end cupola caboose. The weekend would not have been possible without our North Georgia Live Steamers volunteers. On Friday, we had Norm, Thomas, Bob, Scott, and Robby go to the museum to setup our space in the museum.

On Saturday, we had Scott, Sherry, David E., Joe, Norm, and Robby greet about 2,000 visitors to the museum. We enjoyed the surprise most had when they came around the corner and saw our displays with pictures taken of and with each item on display. It was a close race between the Chick-fil-A box car and the club steam engine as to which was the most popular to get a picture of.
On Sunday, we had Scott, Norm, Susan, Bob, and Robby taking care of answering questions and taking more pictures of our display. We also wondered through the museum and got to see many of the other railroad and museum items on display.
