The 2025 North Georgia Live Steamers Fall Meet will be Thursday, October 19th through Sunday, October 19th. You and your friends who love trains are invited to join us for our 5th annual fall meet.

It is hard to believe 2024 is about to come to an end. The year started off with New Years Day club fun day with workdays and other activities around the railroad to follow. Our members and volunteers worked more than 40 days and more than 2,000 volunteer hours throughout the year. We could not have done it without the help of “Bob Jr” and other special equipment to get so much done throughout the year. They helped trench, move dirt, gravel, and more on a variety of projects including the Clubhouse and Grandma line. Let’s take a look back at some of the photos highlighting what all happened around the railroad.

On Saturday, November 2, 2013, marked the opening of the Conyers & Hightower Trail Railroad and the end of a 15-year absence of a permanent railroad for North Georgia Live Steamers to operate. A lot has changed over the years, but one thing has not, and it is the dedication of every member, volunteer, and visitor that has helped make the railroad possible along the way. A big thank you to the City of Conyers and the Georgia International Horse Park for sharing our vision and love of trains. A big thank you to our onsite coordinator, Wes for making sure everything happened as it needed including overnight security, we could not have done it without all he did throughout the weekend. We had several bring desserts and by the time lunch was over everyone said they ate way too much.

Our annual Hot Summer Nights Club Fun Run, more like morning and afternoon, was an incredible day for our members and visitors. The weather was unusually gorgeous for an August summer day and only got better into the evening. We had members and visitors come and go throughout the day enjoying fellowship, lunch, and of course riding trains.

Our annual Father’s Day weekend club fun day will be on Saturday, June 15th. We are expecting a great turnout by the club and will have some visitors stopping by to check out our railroad. The day starts and ends on your schedule, but most will arrive in the morning and stay until they’ve had so much fun, they can’t handle it anymore. We are also expecting to see a brand-new steam engine come alive for the first time, so you won’t want to miss the big event. Make sure you invite friends and family to come out and enjoy the railroad with you.

Here is a great opportunity to purchase a completely rebuilt electric switcher. The story begins 40+ years ago when the switcher was built by Paul Demianchik in about 1979. The cab was custom built for him by Bill Koster’s Miniature Railroad Supply. The motor and controller also came from Bill. The drive train came from Railroad Supply Corp. For those that will be arriving on Saturday morning please note that a high school event is going on in the morning adjacent to the railroad. Upon arrival simply let the traffic detail know you are going to the railroad, and they will let you through. Most of the traffic will be school buses pulling into the parking lot and people walking towards the event.

Come out and welcome a new steam engine to the railroad on Saturday, August 12th at 9 a.m. Join Wayne Godshall, of Godshall’s Custom Machining & Live Steam, as he unveils the 19th H10 consolidation locomotive to one of our NGLS members. The weather is looking good for Saturday but as with just about every other day this summer HOT. Make sure you bring plenty of water, a lunch, and take a ride behind C&O 701.

Our annual Summer Night Club Fun Run is the evening of Saturday, August 26th. This is part of our regularly scheduled Club Fun Day activities and is open to all club members, member families, live steam hobbyist, and invited guests. Unlike past years this year will actually be an evening event not a day/evening event. Come late afternoon and stay until after dark. Bring your dinner, friends, family, trains, and a great sense of humor for the evening activities. The grill will be available for those wishing to grill something for dinner. We have a workday scheduled for this Saturday, August 5th starting at 8:30 a.m. with a club meeting scheduled for 1 p.m. The plan is to clean up around the property and take care of any railroad items that are needed ahead of our next club fun run day on Saturday, August 26th as we have our annual Hot Summer Night Club Fun Run. Before you ask yes, this year’s Hot Summer Night run will actually be at night especially with the heat we’ve been having this summer. Plans are still coming together but we are encouraging everyone to bring their own dinner and if you want to grill the grill will also be available. If you plan on using the grill, make sure you bring necessary utensils for the grill. Make sure you invite friends and family to join you at the railroad during this event.

Plans are in the works to bring to life a new steam engine on Saturday, August 12th at the railroad. Join Wayne Godshall, of Godshall’s Custom Machining & Live Steam, as he unveils the 19th H10 consolidation locomotive to one of our NGLS members. The locomotive has been modeled after the C&O 701 which maybe the last known surviving consolidation locomotive of the C&O railroad. The prototype was originally built in 1911 for the Hocking Valley Railways and later merged with the C&O railroad. To read up on the prototype and see some of the build pictures click here.
